OBJECTIVE:  In order to honor and perpetuate the names of Florida Soccer Referees who have distinguished themselves while at a Regional competition level and were selected to officiate at a National competition level, the Ted & Christina Unkel Award of Excellence is hereby established.

Ted and Christina Unkel are Florida soccer referees representing Florida and the US Soccer Federation as FIFA Referees and professional soccer referees. Grounded in excellence on the field, they also share their refereeing passion in mentoring, instructing and advising the next generation of referees. Ted Unkel was a FIFA Referee from 2016-2021 and a current MLS Professional Referee. Christina Unkel was a FIFA Referee from 2012-2019 and current MLS VAR. They both have served as mentors at USYS Southern Regionals from 2012 to the present and at USYS National events.
